Botox® / Dysport® / Xeomin®

Your face reflects life’s full range of emotions from smiling to frowning, happiness to sadness. Repeated muscle reactions and contractions, over time, cause the skin on top of these muscles to relax and lose elasticity. It is then that those inevitable signs of stress and aging – expressive lines and scowling wrinkles – begin to appear.

If this applies to you, this may be a good time to consult Dr. Hernandez about a facial injectable like Botox® Cosmetic, which can target and ease the contracting muscles that cause those unsightly lines and wrinkles across the face.

A Consultation about Botox® Cosmetic with Dr. Hernandez

Dr. Hernandez is a board certified plastic surgeon specializing in the face. In consultation with her, you can discuss all of your aesthetic concerns.

After I examine your face and learn more about your expectations, I may recommend treatment with Botox Cosmetic, which is a physically corrective injectable that is easy to administer. Botox can aesthetically soften and smooth facial lines and creases. Just as important, the physical revitalization that comes with Botox can be psychological, too, as its effects may boost your self-esteem and confidence.

Botox® Cosmetic Diminishes Lines and Wrinkles

Using a fine needle, Dr. Hernandez is able to place Botox in areas that show dramatic signs of aging and stress. She uses it in the frown lines, those furrows across the brow, and in the glabellar region between the eyebrows above the nose. Placed in this upper facial area, Botox can render the brow smoother and present a less grimacing reflection of your emotions.

In Dr. Hernandez’s hands, these strategically placed injections of Botox take minimal time to administer. An additional benefit of Botox is its ability to elevate the lateral portion of the brow, giving a slightly more pronounced and refined curvature to the eyebrow.

In her office in Boca Raton, Dr. Hernandez may also inject Botox in the laugh lines or crow’s feet, those tiny creases that feather out from the edges of the eyes. Results from Botox injections are evident within two to three days and can last from three to five months.

Botox® Cosmetic and Other Botulinum Toxin Injectables

Botox® Cosmetic is the best known of the botulinum toxins, a category of injectables that today includes Dysport® and Xeomin®. When you visit Dr. Hernandez, she will discuss all of these options. There are slight pharmaceutical differences between these injectables in both their make-up and dosage.

All three products consist of a botulinum toxin and a protein, and all three work to relax muscle contractions, thus smoothing the furrows and diminishing moderate to severe lines and wrinkles.

Injections of botulinum toxins directly calm the nerves connected to facial muscles. The messages normally sent to muscles by the neurotransmitters are significantly lessened, thus the muscular contractions are diminished. This muscular relaxation allows the over- exercised skin to return to a previous state of youthful smoothness, rejuvenating the surfaces of the injected areas: the brow, the glabella, and the crow’s feet around the eyes.

Dysport®

Dysport has been proven to take effect in a relatively short amount of time, usually within 24 to 48 hours. While it acts similarly to Botox in the target areas, injections of Dysport have been observed to spread out further, affecting a slightly broader area.

Xeomin®

Xeomin is a similar compound of botulinum toxin and a protein, yet it does not have all of the additives of the other two products. Some consider it a purer injectable. The resulting effects of Xeomin are similar to those of Botox. The difference is that Xeomin does not act as fast as the others botulinum toxins.

It should be noted that while all three injectables have proven effective, they are not to be used interchangeably. Dr. Hernandez will advise you on which one is best for you and which will most likely meet your expectations.
