Laser Resurfacing

Laser Resurfacing

Laser skin resurfacing, also known as a “laser peel,” can remove decades from your face through reducing facial wrinkles, lines, and scars. Newer technologies provide a higher level of control in laser surfacing, delivering targeted and precise treatment that is effective and safe even for the most delicate areas of the face.

What Laser Skin Resurfacing Can Improve

  • Wrinkles or fine lines under your eyes, around your mouth, or across your forehead
  • Acne or chickenpox scarring
  • Skin brightness and improved texture after a facelift
  • Sun-damaged or aging skin
  • Liver spots
  • Yellowish or grayish skin tones
  • Warts
  • Birthmarks
  • Enlarged oil glands on the nose

Laser Resurfacing with Dr. Hernandez

With advances and refinements over the years, laser technologies have become a major component in the portfolio of facial rejuvenation techniques. Today, the simplest of laser treatments can eliminate annoying spots and discoloration, bringing back natural youthfulness.

Daily exposure to the sun and environmental pollutants take a toll on our faces, causing blemishes, blotches, and other unsightly skin conditions. Laser treatments with Dr. Hernandez are a viable and effective way to eliminate some of these unwanted signs of skin damage and even the fine lines of aging.

Dr. Hernandez is acutely aware of the latest advancements in laser technologies. In consultation with her, she will determine the laser treatment appropriate to address your concerns in order to meet your expectations.

Treatments with lasers can be made across the entire facial surface, from brow to chin, or more likely in specific areas where skin damage is most noticeable. In your personal consultation, Dr. Hernandez will assess your needs and advise you accordingly.

CO2 Laser Treatments with Dr. Hernandez

In her Boca Raton practice, Dr. Hernandez employs the Smartxide Dot® CO2 laser, which allows easy treatment of a variety of skin conditions. These conditions can range from the most superficial facial blemishes and spots, to more complex conditions such as deep pigmented brown spots, wrinkles, and lines around the mouth. With this advanced laser, she can regulate its unique vaporizing thermal technique, precisely rendering the desired depth of the treatment.

How Does Smartxide Dot® CO2 Laser Work?

Application of the laser allows for several “dots” of laser energy to treat an area of the skin. These dots will create a thermal and ablative effect on the target site—without affecting adjacent tissue.  The healthy skin around the treatment area will enable your skin to heal rapidly. These treatment sites will start the process of healing as collagen regenerates, skin contracts, and its tone and texture improves.

What Does Smartxide Dot® CO2 Laser Treat?

DOT therapy is an effective and safe treatment for sun-damaged skin, brown spots, uneven texture, skin laxity, enlarged pores, deep wrinkles, fine lines, acne and superficial scarring on the neck, face, hands, or chest.

How Many Smartxide Dot® CO2 Laser Treatments Will I Need?

That will depend on the degree of skin damage and what results you expect. Most patients see improvement after one session, but others need a series of sessions for full resolution of their cosmetic concerns. Dr. Hernendez will let you know how many treatment sessions you will need during your consultation.

What Can I Expect After Treatment?

You should expect to see improvement in tone, texture and quality of your skin within two weeks after your treatment, with continued improvement for a month or more because of collagen stimulation.

Is Smartxide Dot® CO2 Laser Treatments Painful?

There is little to no discomfort during the treatment. You may feel some mild heating sensation, but most of our patients describe the process as quite tolerable.

Are There Any Side-Effects?

For about a week, most patients experience redness of the skin with flaking or peeling. Though these effects vary from patient to patient, you can expect most of these symptoms to resolve within a week.

VariLite® Lasers with Dr. Hernandez

The VariLite Laser works well when a patient has generalized redness of the skin (rosacea) or dilated blood vessels due to sun damage. The energy of the VariLite can be focused on unwanted blood vessels that create redness and pronounced dilated blood vessels and veins. Dr. Hernandez frequently uses the VariLite Laser in two separate wavelengths. The varying strength and energy of the laser light allows the doctor to target and clear the affected areas.

For the VariLite Laser, Dr. Hernandez will customize your regimen of treatments. Depending on the breadth and depth of the skin areas affected, you may require several applications of VariLite.

To ensure an effective laser procedure, Dr. Hernandez combines her acute sensitivity of facial anatomy with awareness of the individual patient’s expectations. Laser treatments are minimally invasive, with nominal discomfort and downtime.

Dr. Hernandez performs laser skin resurfacing as an outpatient procedure, but she can also include it as part of a surgical procedure such as a facelift or brow lift.

What Should I Expect During My VariLite® Laser Treatment?

The VariLite laser treatment takes around 15-30 minutes. We ask you to wear protective goggles during treatment sessions. Dr. Hernendez uses a specialized handpiece to administer the treatment. You may feel a slight sting when the laser is applied.

VariLite Laser Recovery and Results

You may experience some redness, bruising, or minor swelling after the VariLite®  treatment, but these should all subside within a few days. Dr. Hernendez will recommend that you stay out of direct sunlight and wear sunscreen during your recovery, as your skin will be quite sensitive to the sun at this time.

Spider veins and broken capillaries will fade during the weeks after VariLite® treatment. Multiple sessions may be necessary for best results.

Are VariLite® Treatments Safe?

The VariLite® laser treatment is a safe, non-invasive skin treatment that targets only areas that need help. Because Dr. Hernendez is a skilled, board-certified plastic surgeon with experience in reconstructive and cosmetic improvements, you will be in the best of hands.
