Lasers are utilized to minimize the appearance of fine lines throughout the face, especially around the mouth and eyes.  Generally, laser resurfacing is performed on the entire face and different types of lasers may be employed at the same time depending on the areas to be treated, skin texture and thickness of skin. If you have fair, healthy, non-oily skin, you are an ideal candidate for laser resurfacing.

Laser Resurfacing can enhance your appearance and will improve facial lines but will not prevent the aging process.

Laser Resurfacing can be performed at the same time as a Face Lift depending on the laser used but can also be performed 10 to 14 days after the surgery. With the CO2, Sciton or Erbium laser, the majority of female patients return to wearing make-up seven days following the procedure. With a Fractional laser or a MicroLaserPeel you may wear makeup three to four days after the procedure.

Is Laser Resurfacing right for me?
Men and women of all ages may benefit from laser surgery. You may be a good candidate for Laser Resurfacing if you have any of the following conditions:

• Fine lines, especially around the eyes
• Vertical lines around the mouth
• Facial scars caused by injury or accident
• Scars caused by acne
• Areas of uneven pigmentation, such as “age spots”
• Lines on the cheeks caused by sun damage.

Procedure

Laser Resurfacing smoothes the face and fine wrinkles using a carbon dioxide laser device that treats layers of damaged skin. It softens lines around the eye and mouth and minimizes facial scars and unevenly pigmented areas. This procedure may take from one minute to one hour and may require more than one session. Laser Resurfacing is usually an outpatient procedure unless combined with other surgical procedures that require an overnight stay.

Recovery

Depending on the type of laser, patients are usually back to work within three to four days to two weeks. Complete fading of redness can take up to six months.
