CHIN IMPLANT

Chin augmentation (also called genioplasty or mentoplasty) strengthens the appearance of a receding chin by increasing its projection. The goal is to improve your profile by creating a better balance between your chin and other facial features.

Plastic surgeons use facial implants to improve and enhance facial contours. Implants may help strengthen your jaw line or bring your chin into balance with the rest of the face without affecting your bite or jaw function. If you are looking for improvement in your appearance and are realistic in your expectations, you may find that a chin implant is the right choice for you.

Some patients choose to have an implant placed in conjunction with another procedure, such as a Face Lift. Implants can be used to balance your profile and help restore a more youthful appearance.

CHIN SURGERY

Insertion of a chin implant may take anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour. During the procedure, Dr. Hernandez selects the proper size and shape implant to enhance your individual appearance and inserts it into a pocket over the front of your jawbone. To create the pocket and insert the implant, a small incision is placed either along the lower lip on the inside of your mouth or just under the chin area. Sutures in the lower chin area will be removed in five to seven days.

RECOVERING FROM CHIN SURGERY

Dr. Hernandez will instruct you about dental hygiene, eating and any restrictions to your activities after surgery. After surgery, you will most likely be up and about the same day, but your activities will be restricted. You should be able to return to work within one or two weeks.
