A topical or local anesthetic is used to prevent any pain or discomfort during the procedure. A complete upper and lower lash line takes 2 1/2 to 3 hours. You will be asked to refrain from applying makeup. It is also recommended to avoid direct sunlight and wearing contact lenses for a few days. Some patients may experience slight swelling in the area which will subside with the use of cold compresses.
